The annual maintenance shutdown demonstrated the importance of Patera’s scaffolding safety expertise and efficient proactive supervision for the success of projects. Patera’s expertise, client training and anticipation ensured a seamless and safe shutdown without any surprises.
Training of scaffolding clients and orientation of scaffolders is key
During the annual maintenance shutdown, Patera was responsible for scaffolding safety supervision, agreement consultation, training of scaffolding clients, and online orientation for scaffolders. “In agreement consulting, we reviewed the current legal requirements and provided instructions on the obligations of the scaffolding supplier. This enables the client to demand key safety issues and understand the significance of scaffolding in future projects, too”, says Janne Parantainen, scaffolding safety expert at Patera.
Thanks to the client training offered by Patera, clients who ordered scaffolding learned to identify safety deficiencies and set clear requirements for scaffolding safety. Patera’s online orientation was also praised. Scaffolders, including foreigners, received orientation on Finnish scaffolding requirements in their native language. This ensured that only skilled scaffolders were working on the site and that all operations fully complied with Finnish legislation.
Scaffolding to meet requirements from day one
With regard to scaffolding safety, Patera ensured that the scaffolding used in the annual maintenance shutdown met the requirements from day one. The preliminary visit before the start of the shutdown made it possible to check the quality of the built scaffolding, and the necessary changes could be made before actual use. “This anticipation led to clear cost savings and improved efficiency, as the scaffolding was ready for safe use at the start of the shutdown”, says the maintenance manager.
Exceptionally, no issues related to scaffolding waiting times or deficiencies, which had been recurring challenges in the previous year, were raised in any site meeting. Proactive supervision by Patera ensured that the scaffolding was immediately available, which significantly increased the efficiency of the shutdown.
Reporting and scaffolding meetings an important part of supervision
Patera actively participated in the meetings during the shutdown and reported any observed deviations to both the scaffolding supplier and the client. This made it possible to compare the delivery capacity and quality of different scaffolding suppliers based on the observations and reports of experts.
